About Us

Dear Huntington Families,

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! With the challenges of COVID and the Delta variant, we are ready to start the 2021-2022 school year with excitement. Entering the H.E. Huntington school gates may look different, but we will not let our masks cover the excitement as we anticipate opportunities to learn, build friendships, and grow as a school community. HMS is ready to help each and every student grow in academic achievement and social emotional growth.

Before students come on campus and the school gates open, be reassured the top priority is the health and safety for teachers, staff, and students. Therefore HMS and all schools in the SMUSD will be in accordance with State and local guidelines set forth by LACDPH. All students and staff will be required to wear masks while indoors. More information on the procedures and protocols pertaining to COVID and the Delta variant will be provided by the San Marino Unified District Office.

The California ELA/ELD Framework identifies four cognitive and intrapersonal competencies all students need for college and career readiness in the 21st century: critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration. HMS Faculty work diligently to incorporate these 4Cs into their lessons and units of instruction. They are foundational pillars across all core subjects that create a learning platform for the standards being taught to students.  Content and standards may shift over time, but the core competencies remain constant and they provide the essentials students need to thrive in their educational pursuits.

In addition, we believe strongly that HMS students should develop character traits and citizenship qualities that benefit the climate of the school and enhance the well-being of every individual.   Every month we celebrate the contributions of students at the Good Citizenship Breakfast, a tangible way positive actions are recognized and rewarded. Another initiative we will continue this school year is our W.E.B. (Where Everybody Belongs) program. WEB is built on the idea that students should feel welcomed and supported as they transition into middle school life. WEB is a program where student activities are organized by 8th grade WEB leaders for all 6th graders where they enjoy time together throughout the year as they continue to build strong ties to their new school community.

I’m very pleased to introduce to you Ms. Mary Hazlett. She will join us as our new assistant principal. Mary has a wealth of educational experience from her years as an Assistant Principal at La Canada (Grades 7-12), Agoura High School and Glendale High School. Ms.Hazlett is a passionate, committed, and caring individual who will compliment all aspects of our student-centered mission. Please help welcome Ms. Hazlett when you are on campus.

On behalf of all teachers, staff, and administrators at Huntington Middle School, I wish you a wonderful start to the 2021-2022 school year.  Let’s go Foxes, we got this!
