CONGRATULATIONS HALO Award Recipients!

Cheryl Freiburg
As an HMS alumnae, Cheryl is a loyal volunteer known for her excellent work and positive attitude at various school sites. Her contributions to HMS include co-chairing the most recent Foxfather Parent Party, Chair of New Family Orientation for multiple years, serving as an integral volunteer for the Hauntington Breakfast: Ghosts of Chuckwagon Past, and keeping families informed through her HMS PTA social media posts. When she’s not hard at work volunteering, Cheryl can be seen cheering for her children on the soccer and track fields! Cheryl exemplifies the HMS Halo Award spirit.

Kristopher Good
Mr. Good began teaching social studies at HMS in 2017. Since that time, he has been instrumental to HMS’ growth and success. His Good’s Games during lunch periods provides a safe and positive space for students to connect. In addition, hisannual Mario Kart Tournament is a beloved tradition at HMS - an event that 8th graders look forward
to every year. Mr. Good has served on the School Site Council and beginning in 2024-2025, he will also serve as the Advisor for the HMS ASB. Mr. Good’s dedication to HMS and its students as a teacher and a mentor is appreciated by the entire HMS community and it is an honor to present him with this year’s Halo Award!

Luyi Khasi
Luyi has been a constant volunteer at HMS since 2019. Over the years, Luyi has volunteered with the Band and Choral programs, as well as with various spring musical productions. Luyi has been the signature emcee for Hauntington Breakfast for multiple years. Luyi’s support for student programs and fundraising efforts have made an
impact throughout the San Marino school community. She is truly an angel who is so deserving of the Halo Award!

Mikah O’Mara
Mikah is a treasured volunteer who has served in numerous PTA volunteer positions at HMS. Over the years, she has served on the PTA Executive Board in multiple roles, co-chaired the HMS Foxfather Parent Party, and will co-chair next year’s HMS Spring Fundraiser. Mikah has truly done it all. She is creative and dependable, and always
willing to lend a hand. Outside of HMS, Mikah is busy managing a household with four boys, all of whom are competitive swimmers! Her commitment to HMS despite her busy schedule is a testament to Mikah’s giving spirit. We are grateful to have Mikah in the HMS family!

Stephanie Raleigh
Stephanie has contributed countless hours to HMS, donating her time and energy to numerous PTA events over the past 6 years. Over the years, she has volunteered as needed with the Choir Boosters, spring musicals, Noontime Fun, Hauntington Breakfasts, and Spring Fundraisers. She also led the Spirit Wear sales and co-chaired
the Teacher and Staff Appreciation last year. Most recently, she spent hours assisting students with the Spring Musical, Aladdin Jr.! Stephanie has always been incredibly caring and thoughtful when it comes to giving back to her community. Congratulations on receiving this year’s Halo Award!

Lauren Shen
The Halo Award Nominating Committee is proud to surprise current PTA President Lauren Shen with this year’s Halo Award. Lauren has been a fixture at HMS since her older daughter started at HMS in 2020. Since then, Lauren has served in various roles on the Executive Board, including Treasurer and Historian, and of course, President. As
President, Lauren has led the HMS PTA through several successful fundraisers and events. Lauren is a respected leader, and her advice is always sound and well-reasoned as she is an expert in PTA rules and guidelines! In addition to her service on the PTA, Lauren has volunteered with the Spirit Squad and Choir Boosters.
Lauren is an inspiration to everyone who knows her and her love and commitment to HMS is unmatched.
 
Carmen Vishwanath
Carmen has served on the HMS PTA in numerous capacities, including Spring Fundraiser Co-Chair, Vice President of Programs and Calendar, and Treasurer. She will repeat her role as Treasurer next year. In addition, Carmen has served on the HMS Band Boosters and volunteered for the HMS Spring Musical by creating costumes.
Outside of HMS, Carmen has been a board member of Partnership for Awareness for several years and is currently an Assistant Scoutmaster and Advancement Chair of Boy Scout Troop 359. Above all, Carmen approaches all of her volunteer commitments with a positive attitude and friendly smile. Congratulations on a well-deserved Halo Award!

Mei Wong
Mei’s extensive contributions to HMS have included serving as the Historian on the Executive Board for two consecutive years and serving on the Big Board on the 8th Grade Promotion Committee. Mei has also served on the PTA Founder’s Day committees for several years. Now in her final year at HMS, Mei co-chaired the
Chinese Breakfast Booth at the Hauntington Breakfast and is the co-chair of the 8th Grade Promotion Party! Mei is a reliable volunteer who manages her roles efficiently and effectively, and always with a smile. Congratulations to this hard working Halo Award winner.
 

Edward Zee
Since 2021, Ed has consistently gone above and beyond in his service to the HMS PTA. Ed has developed graphics and websites for multiple HMS fundraising events, including Hauntington Breakfasts, Parent Parties, and Spring Fundraisers. Ed is always willing to pitch in as needed, even at the very last minute, to ensure that families have a
positive experience when purchasing tickets or sponsorships for fundraising events. In addition to being a tireless HMS volunteer, Ed is also the Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 358, where he leads many HMS students in outdoor campouts and other adventures. We’re grateful for Ed’s dedication to HMS!
