Description

This is a one year course equivalent to High School Spanish first year.  We use the same books and materials as the high school.  We take the same tests and exams as the high school.  

Spanish 1/2 is a two-semester elective open to 8th grade students and is the first year in a sequence of four courses.  The course is conducted in such a way as to emphasize the development of the four language skills:  understanding, speaking, writing and reading.  Students are involved in the ongoing building and reinforcing of the foundation for communication in the language through activities based on linguistic and cultural themes.  Vocabulary acquisition, idiomatic and structural usage pertaining to various themes ranging from everyday to cultural, literary and intellectual experiences are expanded from the Introduction to Spanish course in terms of both amount and depth.

The drawing sheet is attached below with examples of the first 2 sentences that should be written on the back.

Today in class we took a quiz.  After the quiz we covered the new vocabulary (classroom supplies like pencils, pens, eraser, white board etc).  We briefly covered the "estar" concept and conjugations.  Students explained the difference between SER and ESTAR.  SER is permanent and unchanging while ESTAR is something that changes.  They should have written this rhyme on these pages:  "How you feel and where you are is when you use the verb estar"  
Homework should take much less than 15 minutes.

Today in class students corrected the 8 sentences and drawing they started yesterday.  I was absent.  
 
On on the back of the drawings the students wrote out 8, AR verb conjugations with the use of 2 colors.  Students who completed this with only 1 color had -8 from 40 points possible.
