Today in Social Studies, students acted out being in a classroom run by Confucius. With their Elders, they read Section 2 about Confucianism and completed ISN p. 155. We also reviewed and corrected the ISN at the end of the period. In English, we reviewed the figurative language terms in the "Reading Candy" packet and created a study guide t-chart, then took a practice figurative language quiz both in preparation for tomorrow's quiz. Then we continued our analysis of Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken" and discussed the Think Question responses (using the R/ACE structured response to literature format). We also completed the vocabulary terms in the literature packet on page 2. If you are absent, yet feeling well, please complete classwork at home.

Happy Monday! βοΈ
Today in class we reviewed the Egypt Report scoring rubric and teacher comments. We then made individual writing goals for Semester 2. Next, we did the preview activity on ISN p. 105, read the Introduction and Section 1 for Lesson 14 "Unlocking the Secrets of Mohenjodaro", and answered questions 1 and 2 on ISN p. 106 for Section 1. For English, we discussed Think Questions 1-3 on p. 42 in the StudySync workbook. If you were absent, you should write the answers to Think Questions 1-3 on a lined piece of paper with your name and the title "Think Questions 1-3, Page 42".
Please work on classwork during the day if you are at home and feeling fine. If you are sick, your first priority is to get well! You can catch up when you feel better.

Welcome to HMS! What a great first day!
Although students were attentive listeners, they may come home feeling overwhelmed with the amount of information provided today. Please reassure your child that teachers will review procedures repeatedly over the next few weeks. Encourage your child to ask questions and seek help when needed. My goal is for all students to feel safe and comfortable in their new learning environment. I am already impressed with this group of 6th graders, and I know it will be a rewarding, positive, and successful year for all!
