Dear Parents:

Today your students brought home their writing portfolio highlighting the various ELA and SS projects, writing, and essays they worked so hard on all year. Please take the time to "oh" and "ah" over their hard work and effort! They all deserve a lot of credit for all they've accomplished.

It's so hard to believe this year is already over. It truly has been an honor and privilege teaching your wonderful children. Have a restful and relaxing summer. All the best!

Fondly,
Mrs. Moffat

Assignment

Dear Parents,

As I told your children today, I will be on a medical leave of absence for the next 3 weeks. Mrs. Emilie Baribault will be my substitute while I am out. Many of you know Mrs. Baribault from her years teaching at Valentine (in fact many of your children were her students). She is also the sister of co-6th grade teacher Mrs. Brunner, so it is a perfect replacement while I am gone. Mrs. Baribault and I have spent a few days together working to ensure a smooth transition for the students of Room 308.

Because I will be gone, homework will not be posted online. The students are aware of this and know they have to record their assignments in their Binder Reminders. Mrs. Baribault will continue my practice of initialing the binders of those students who like to have me confirm that they've written all assignments in accurately.

I'm looking forward to returning to "work" (in quotations because I love what I do), on Monday, March 25th, which also happens to be my birthday, so it will be a great birthday indeed returning back to my bright, engaging, loving, and often entertaining students!

Fondly,

Mrs. Moffat

The students all wrote their homework in their binder reminders (or in the case of a student who didn't have the binder -- on a piece of paper). Each student then checked to make sure it was written correctly with another student. Please check your binder reminders, check off the finished homework, and pack your backpacks with all materials when you are done. Remember: for tomorrow's test, it is helpful to make flashcards of the figurative language term on one side and the definition on the other, then test yourself. Practice on IXL. Go over your practice test and worksheets. You can do it! :)

Students and Parents,

It was so much fun welcoming back the students and hearing all about the amazing time everyone had at Wonder Valley! Lots of laughs in class today!

This week, we will not have any formal "quarter finals" in this class, and we will only have minimal homework consisting of work that leads to an assessment.

In Social Studies, students are learning about the world's first empires and Hammurabi's Law Code. There will be an "in-class" assignment/assessment (not a final) due by the end of the week. In English, the students are writing an essay for the Island of the Blue Dolphins. On Thursday (since we have no Social Studies final), I plan to give a short, 10-question, Island of the Blue Dolphins quiz that will include the grammar skill: Capitalization. The students will receive a Capitalization practice and review worksheet on Tuesday, to be corrected in class and discussed on Wednesday, so that they can study from their mistakes.
