Dear Room 204 Families ~

Thank you so much for making this school year both rewarding and memorable.  I loved walking into my classroom each morning as I got to spend the day with bright, hard working, humorous, and respectful children.  I feel fortunate to have had an amazing group of students this year, and I will certainly miss them all!

Thank you, parents, for the support and guidance you so generously gave over the last ten months.  Your dedication and efforts were greatly appreciated and certainly contributed to the success and happiness your child experienced in 6th grade!

I wish you all a wonderful, restful, and happy summer!

Dear Parents and Students,

San Marino PTAffiliates Summer School registration begins today!  I just wanted you to know about two classes that I will be teaching (both classes will be held in my HMS classroom).  Please read the course descriptions below and consider registering for them.  I would love to see my students this summer!

CCSS Writing Skills for the 7th Grade Middle School Student

(Grade 7)

Whether you’re a strong writer or you desire to improve your writing and critical thinking skills, you will get plenty of support and practice in this engaging, activity-based course! Each week students will address a different mode of writing (expository, argumentative, persuasive, etc.) using the skills learned. Students will create a 3-D Interactive Writing Skills Notebook aligned to Grade 7 Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Focus is on writing and thinking skills that produce clear, exemplary writing. We’ll practice responding to prompts and claims, citing examples to support arguments, and more! The Writing Skills Notebook the student produces will be a valuable reference guide for use in middle school and beyond.

Study Skills for Success!

(Grades 5 – 7)

Establishing effective study habits is critical to a student’s success in school. This class will cover a variety of strategies that will help you boost your grades and set you up for academic success! Some of the topics that will be covered in this class are time management, note-taking, goal setting and prioritizing, paper organization, test preparation, test-taking strategies, homework and project planning, and memorization techniques …. just to name a few! The skills you will gain in this class will positively impact your life - both inside and outside the classroom!

Assignment

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to HMS!  What a great start we've had!  Although students have been attentive listeners, your child may come home feeling overwhelmed with the amount of information given to them over the last two days.  Please reassure your student that we will review procedures repeatedly over the next few weeks.  Encourage them to ask questions and seek help when needed.  My goal is for all students to feel safe and comfortable in their new learning environment.  I am already impressed with this group of 6th graders, and I know it will be a rewarding, positive, and successful year for all!
