This course is an introduction to the Spanish language. Students perform the most basic functions of the language and become familiar with some of the elements of its culture. The emphasis is based on the development of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills which promote meaningful language practice.

We saw a video about the history of Spanish.  
*Extra credit:  One point for every Spanish word. Look for 5 words that are in Spanish and of Arabic origin.  The words in this video do not qualify.  Remember 75% of Spanish comes from Arabic origins. You may not use ¡Ojalá! because I explained that in class today.  Write down on one index card.  Write your name on top LEFT corner of the card.  Write the word and then the translation.  
Ejémplo:  Ojalá = if Allah allows it.  (circ. 1400)
 
Today we saw 3 music videos.
 
We talked about body language being 93% of our real communication.
We talked about the lock down drill.
We talked about observing body language.  
Homework: is to observe body language and even go as far as assigning imagninary conversations just to see if you are understanding the flow of the subject's actual communication pattern.  Observe patterns in speech.  Try to guess what sounds mean.  In other words, no writing or homework to turn in tomorrow (jueves).

On Wednesday students use the Hutto Lab to practice going on to the online version of the textbook.  Students need to be able to log on to the Online Book often in order to do the listening exercises as well as to see the grammar videos.  Each student was given their password and username.  These are provided as often as needed although students shouldn't need the password repeated by the teacher, they have it taped inside their workbooks.

Right under the "¡Avancemos!" logo, select the Unit or Chapter. (We are on Unit 3) Now click on the tab that says downloads.  
Students can access the listening for the listening section of the workbook through the online book.
