Don Duranso and Jenifer Lozano (SMUSD School Psychologists) are implementing a training that is part of the Region 11 K-12 Student Mental Health (SMH) Initiative funded through the voter approved proposition 63, the California Mental Health Services Authority (CalMHSA), and the California county superintendents educational services association. The goal of the project is to provide training and education on emerging mental health issues. The part of the project that we are involved in is specifically to target student suicide, depression, self-injury, and bullying. The focus is on prevention in these four target areas. We are proud to say we are one of the 54 districts (and 11 charters) participating in the project.

We would like to announce our Parent Training which is specifically designed for parents to help increase awareness regarding warning signs and risk factors contributing to student depression and suicide, as well as those protective factors that help to build resilience against these conditions. As self-injury and bullying are associated with these conditions, these topics will be included in the training.
