Because the trip for 8th graders was cancelled and the students didn't have their materials with them, we had tea (called Mate) and watched a "novela" from the book series.  The novela reviews vocabulary from Chapters 1-5.  No additional homework. 

For parents to know:  we had a whole hour in class on Friday to complete all of this work.  Students were encouraged to make Mother's day cards in Spanish.  They were allowed to choose.

Cuaderno #2 pages 81-90 all activities.  On act 18 write 8 sentences.  On act 20 write 6 lines (minimum).  Do not do act 10.

No homework during Star Testing Days.

We discussed these grammar points in class today.  It's the introduction of the preterite tense and the verb ir, then the last section is a reminder of using reflexive pronouns (me, te, se, nos, os, se) with reflexive verbs even if it's in the preterite now.  Examples:  me lavé la cara, ella se acostó temprano anoche, nosotros nos peinamos igual ayer.....

The High School class will be doing an international foods day on this day.  Students were assigned a country.  They are to research it and bring in a food from the country or from a similar country that shares the region.  For example all the Central American countries share similar dishes and so do the Caribean Islands etc. 

This is meant to be fun.  Please bring the food in pre-cut or sliced so that the students can enjoy it and not spend time cutting up dishes for their classmates. 

Please bring enough for 5 students and don't spend too much $ or time on preparation.    Do not bring in fish dishes (they are too expensive) and typically they are not finished and end up in the trash. 

Thank you in advance for helping your children research the country and it's typical dishes.  I hope you will enjoy this project.

Do "anwers only" when appropriate and short sentences when asked to write sentences.  This may look like a lot but when you see the assignments and realize how short the answers are you'll understand it's possible to complete within one class period.

We are learning to conjugate -er and -ir verbs. 
We are learning to work with new irregular verbs (in the present tense), verbs like:  hacer, poner, traer, saber, ver y salir. 

From now on students should really stop and take the time to learn the meaning of all new verbs.

Do the presentations for Acts 6 and 11.  Each student should write out the dialogues so that in parterns (of two) they can present tomorrow.  Each student should write out the entire dialogue not just one part of it.  Make it a minimum of 3 lines per speaker.  So for activity 6 for example there should be a total of 6 lines/sentences and the same for activity 11.

Please be ready for the test on Friday.

• On the test you need to know the new vocabulary with all the new adjetives
• Also you need to know how to work with adjetives in Spanish (the must agree in gender and number with the noun they describe)
• Know how to work with the verb Gustar and the indirect object pronouns (me, te, le, nos, os, les)
• Know how to say why you like something (using adjetives and the verb "Ser")
• Know how to say you like something more than something else, "Me gusta más la pizza, no me gusta el helado."

Tonight study for the Chapter 2 test we will have on Friday.  We will work on pages 70 and 71 from the textbook on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Also if you want to start now you can do the future homework:  Cuaderno #2 pp. 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20.  I give two pages a night.  Do the whole page not jus one of the activities.

Double Quiz on Vocabulary and Grammar #2 for Chapter 2

Over the weekend it would be great if the students did these activities but I wont be giving credit for them.  It is not officially homework.

For the grammar quiz we will need to know

• the 4 ways to say THE in Spanish:  el, la, los and las
• the IOP's that we need to use with the verb gustar: me, te, le, nos, os, les
• how to work with the word "DE" in order to avoid assonance with "de el" it turns into "del"
  

Today we returned the quizzes from Tuesday.  The weaknesses were:
1.  Knowing the pronouns in Spanish
    yo                   nosotros/nosotras
    tú/usted         vosotros/vosotras & ustedes
    él/ella            ellos/ellas

2. How to conjugate SER
    soy                somos
    eres/es          sois/son
    es                   son
3.  knowing how to work with adjetives in Spanish:
    *adjetives in Spanish need to fit the gender and number of the noun.  The adjetive needs to be adjusted by changing to "o" if it's masucline singular, "a" if it's femenine singular, "os" if it's masculine plural and "as" if it's femenine plural.

Tonight's homework is to do pages 19, 20 and 21 from Cuaderno #1

We will have the quiz for Vocabulary 2 and Grammar 2 on Tuesday of next week.  October 12

We are learning new vocabulary focusing on things people "like" such as foods, books, cars etc.  The new Grammar is finally getting more complex.  We will be focusing on:
1.  nouns with definite articles (fancy way of saying the word "THE")......pg. 60
2.  The verb GUSTAR and the Indirect Object Pronouns (IOP) that it needs.....pg. 62
3.  The preposition "de" and when does it turn into "del"?......pg. 64

Please help your child stay up to date with the homework assignments and if you wish you can ask them when they get home to see the corrections he or she made on their homework in class when we went over it.  This is a true measure of how they are participating and wether they are on task in the classroom. 

• Both of the quizzes focus on the adjetives vocabulary. 
• Knowing how to conjugate the verb "ser" will be a huge advantage. 
• Know how to write sentences using "no" with the verb "Ser".

For activity 9 -write 4 sentences with the correct use of the verb "ser" and use the adjetives that fit with each person in the pictures provided.

• We are learning to work with GENDER AND NUMBER agreement in Spanish.  Examples:

                                   1.  The girls are tall.   / Las muchachas son altas.

                                    2.  The boys are short and blond. / Ellos son bajos y rubios.

• We are also being reminded of how to work with the conjugation of the verb:  SER

                                  Please memorize and know how to conjugate ser

Chapter 1 Test

Today we prepared for Chapter 1 test.  Since we had some time left over we went ahead and talked about accents in Spanish.  I will attatch the document before the end of the day today.  This is just so that the students can have the information but they will not be tested on this EVER.

Also I want to let you all know that there is such a thing as "Grammar Tutor" you can buy it on Amazon.com or other book sellers.  They are usually about $2.00 or less.  You can practice on it and get the answers at the back of the book.  This Grammar Tutor is great because you can use it for all three levels of Spanish (so it can tutor you for the next 2 years besides this year).
