Hello, and happy Monday! I hope everyone is enjoying the Memorial Day holiday weekend! 🇺🇸

I have sent an email to your school account and have posted information on Google Classroom about our farewell virtual gathering this Wednesday, May 27th. Please check those platforms for the Zoom invitation and log-in information.

I will meet with Periods 1 and 2 from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. and Periods 3 and 4 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Please make every effort to be there!

Please read the following details carefully:

1. I will email you your individual BINGO board on Tuesday night (May 26th). Please print it out or copy it down on a piece of paper.

2. Use coins as markers as we will likely play a few rounds.

3. Prizes will be mailed to the winners!

4. If you win and are wearing a silly, festive hat, you will get an additional prize.

5. Your camera must be TURNED ON in order to attend the virtual gathering and to play BINGO. We want to see everyone's faces as we bid good-bye!

Please let me know if you have any questions and remember to check your school email for your BINGO board on Tuesday night.

Please take a look at the attached photos (see links below). In order to receive credit, you will need to take two (2) photos and email them to me at ebrunner@smusd.us. The FIRST photo should be of your completed pages 2 - 7. Please arrange pages 2 - 4 along the top row and pages 5 - 7 along the bottom row. The SECOND photo should be of your favorite page (or the page you are most proud of). Again, please take a look at my samples that I have attached (however, my pages are blank!). After you send me your photos, you should then bind your pages into a book. Use brass fasteners, ribbon, yarn, or simply staple the pages together! Please remember, your Wanted Poster is due by 8:00 p.m. tonight (Wednesday, May 20th). Below are the directions that I posted yesterday:

STEP 1: Think about the "Whodunnit?" assignment that you completed on Monday. Decide who you think is most to blame for starting the Trojan War. On a piece of notebook paper, write a rough draft that states the following:

• who started the Trojan War (be sure to use an appositive to describe who the person was ... for example, Athena, goddess of beauty and wisdom). The character descriptions are in the character box on page 1 of the play.

• a clear explanation of guilt with supportive and convincing evidence (this should be at least four sentences in length)

STEP 2: After proofreading and editing your rough draft, write out a final draft on the attached "Wanted Poster," which you will need to print out. You may ignore the prompt (Evidence against this character includes ...) above the lines. If possible, write your paragraph with a thin black ink pen (does not have to be a Sharpie). You may write on the back of the paper if you need more space.

STEP 3: Create a colorful illustration of the guilty character that demonstrates neatness and effort (sketch in pencil, outline in thin black Sharpie, color with colored pencils).

This assignment is due today, Wednesday, May 20th. Once you are finished, please take a photo of it (or scan it) and email it to me at ebrunner@smusd.us. Thank you!

Good morning and happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Please see below for a few announcements:

1. Return & Retrieval - Students should have received an email from Mr. Topalian with information about the "Return & Retrieval" process. Each 6th grade student was assigned a particular time on Wednesday (5/20), Thursday (5/21), or Friday (5/22). Most 6th grade students do not have any textbooks to return or gym lockers to clean out. They do need to clean out their lockers, however, and should return all HMS library books to the school library. Students - don't forget to bring an empty backpack or bag to hold the contents of your locker.

2. Classroom Library Books - At the same time that HMS library books are returned, I'd really appreciate it if students would return any Room 204 classroom library books. These books can also be returned to the school library, and Mrs. Anand will make sure I get them. Students - please look around at home and in your lockers for Room 204 books and return them to the school library. I would really appreciate it! Thank you!

3. 6th Grade Portfolios and Classwork - Sorting and placing student work in portfolios is usually done in class by students during the last week of school. However, since students are not allowed in the classrooms, I will need to do this task over the summer. I will reach out to each one of you about picking them up at the beginning of the school year. Stay tuned!

Today, you will read a play entitled, "Who Started the Trojan War?" This play connects with the reading you did earlier this week on StudySync (Black Ships Before Troy: The Story of the Iliad). Pay close attention to each character's actions as you will need to determine who was to blame for starting the Trojan War. Was it Eris? Was it Paris? Was it Aphrodite? Or someone else? The play is linked below. Although not necessary, it might help to print it out. Next week, you will create a "Wanted Poster" for the guilty person and provide evidence of his/her guilt. There is nothing to turn in today, but be sure to read the play carefully.

1. Print out the "Covid-19 Memory Book." Over the past two months, you have been living in an unusual and extraordinary time.
